The 2024 Cpl season is one that I will remember and look back on very fondly for the rest of my life, and a huge reason for that is because of Trevor stiles. It all started in December of 2023 when I was invited by Trevor to be a coach at pro camps. I had only met Trevor twice before that and I had immediately felt like family. Pro camps was an absolute blast and that’s when the idea of Trevor coming over to be the Pfc gk coach for the 2024 season began. It was then in February 2024 a bit before pre season when Trevor rang me to tell me the news he had got the job. I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect, I was definitely excited and had only heard great things but had never actually worked and trained with Trevor before, but from the first day it was an absolute blast. The sessions were hard and intense, but at the same time light hearted and fun. Trev was great at creating a training atmosphere where everyone could be laughing and joking but at the same time putting in quality, work throughout the session each and every day. From the first day of pre season Trevor and I spoke about my strengths and weaknesses and how we were going to work on them, and ultimately achieve our goal at the end of the year of having me win goalkeeper of the year. The season had its fair shares of up and downs from starting off with 5 clean sheets in a row to going 8 games without a win, but through that is where I learned the most from Trevor on not just tactical and technical things, but from how to be a top professional both on and off the pitch when things aren’t going the way you want. My relationship with Trevor is definitely the closest personal relationship I’ve had with any coach and that really allowed for the most growth possible. Trevor had great ways of keeping the group motivated, sometimes taking the group out for dinner and other activities to have some fun and take some stress off. Trevor and I could have open and honest conversations about what we felt was working what wasn’t as-well as managing frustrations out of our control and just focusing on what we could control. For me the greatest thing Trevor gave me as my to coach was the confidence he instilled in me, not only from verbal praise and recognition but from his training as-well,everything was tailored to make you feel the most confident and in best shape for match day on the weekend. Ultimately it was the combination of our close friendship, Trevor’s amazing work and the gk group and environment we had created that led to the best defensive season PFC has had. We had achieved our goal of winning gk of the year, being nominated for u21 player of the year, finishing the year with the most clean sheets and ultimately having set a record transfer fee for the club and having me move up to the mls for the following season. None of this would’ve been possible if it wasn’t for Trevor, the person he his and thought and care he put into his work all year, and for that il always be grateful to him and look back on our year together as one of the best of my career.
